Birth control weight gain. Myth or not?
I know this is kind of a personal topic, but whatever. I just need to vent about something.
Everytime I do a research on birth control, women have to bitch about how all birth controls make you gain weight. Why bitch when you know the side effects is possible weight gain/LOSS? Women would always state how long they’ve been on the birth control and how much weight they’ve gain. Then they would say something like..”Oh I’m so skinny. I could eat anything. Burgers, fries, chocolate, etc….and I would never gain weight. But once I took the pill, I gained 10lbs.!” Sure, maybe you didn’t gain weight from eating all that junk, and once you started taking the pill, that junk actually effected your weight. Don’t blame the pill. If you eat junk, you’ll look like junk, eventually.
I was on the Ortho Evra Patch for six months. Yeah, I gained about 15lbs. Maybe it was the patch, maybe it wasn’t. But I do recall me eating alot of junk during that time. I ate big portions of it too. I believe that the patch made my appetite increase, but still…it was MY choice to give into my appetite. I think women like to point the finger to birth control for their weight gain, rather than admit they gave into their appetite. =P
The patch was great to me. I had lighter periods, less mood swings, and no cramps. Only thing I didn’t like about it was that the patch would be visible to others. There are only a four places you can stick the patch: upper outer arm, upper torso (front and back, excluding the breasts), abdomen, or buttock. I didn’t like placing it on my buttocks because whenever I would bend down to research something, it would shift and become wrinkly. On the upper arm and upper torso, it would be visible to people during the summer time. On the tummy, was where I liked to wear mine the most. Sometimes my jeans would make it loose there. When I worked out, the patch would become loose, and I would be forced to change to a new one. And of course…it would leave the black squared ring on my skin, which was a bitch to get off…even with baby oil. The patch worked great, but I didn’t like how I had to be paranoid with it. The care of it was annoying to me. So I got off to it.
I haven’t been on any form of birth control for about three months now. My heavy periods, cramps, and PMS came back. Lovely. =P So today, I went to the clinic to pick up my first NuvaRing. I will give an update and review about it later. =) I’m excited to be on it. No more having people ask me, “Are you trying to quit smoking?”
As for the Pill, I knew I wouldn’t like it because I wouldn’t remember to take it everyday. Too much of a hassle to me. =P
