FirstDay.
Beauty School: Cozmo, The School. Bonita Springs, FL
Today was the first day of beauty school. It was totally not what I expected. I thought we were just going to get our books, have an introduction to the school, introduced ourselves to the other classmates, and talk about sanitation and the boring, yet vital stuff like that. Well, we did all of that and so much more.
Right when I got into the school, I got my kit. Then the newbies [just me and two other girls] joined another group of people. Most were newbies a couple weeks ago and the rest were close to graduating. While they were learning the man haircut, we went through our kit to make sure everything was there.
The kit was like Christmas morning. Our stuff was in a big booty duffel bag. Our official kit box is on backorder. I bet this is one of the most exciting parts of beauty school for most people[receiving your kit]. There is sooo much stuff. Three model heads with human hair in three different textures [they're a little scary]. Cutting shears, all kinds of combs, hair dryer, two clippers, straightener, curling iron, clips, etc.

Meet Debbie, Michelle, and Ms. Suzzi-Kin. When I got home, I showed Cooper [our dog] the ladies. LOL. He would not stop barking at Michelle. Lol. And he kept a safe distance from them.

Right after we were done, the instructor [he's really cool] told us to grab “Debbie”, cutting shears, and comb. We learned to do the blunt cut. I thought, “Wow, we get to cut hair on our first day? Sweet!” So the first half of the day, the newbies and I learned about sectioning, shear & comb placement, elevation, apex, etc. It was actually pretty easy.
The next half of the day, we learned about manicures. Easy for me since I already know how to do nails. I just don’t know the terms for a lot of stuff anymore, like bacteria and nerves. I have a pretty sweet nail design right now. The instructor really liked it and had to tell everyone in class about ‘em. I felt my face get hot and red. Lol. The last half an hour, everyone got to know the newbies. We each spoke about why we want be in the field, our hobbies, blah blah. And we also got to learn about the girls already there. Everyone was pretty cool. :]

These are the nails I’m rocking how. Abstract Purple. I love this look!
Tutorial later. Very very easy. No use of striping paints. I gotta study now :]
Tomorrow, doing manicures.
Oh yeah…got my thousand dollar off my tuition. Aww yeah.
I’m already loving this school.
^-^
YummyBreading.
Last night the BF and I made some breaded chicken. We usually buy Progresso’s Plain/Seasoned or Shake ‘n Bake bread crumbs and add in our own seasonings and herbs. This time, we got Zatarain’s Bake & Crisp [chicken]. Omgosh…this breading is really good. You don’t have to add any seasonings..not even salt and pepper. The breading is so good that we couldn’t stop eating it with our fingers. Lol. We love Cajun/Creole seasonings. This breading has the right amount of everything…saltiness, spice, and savory.
We had the breaded chicken with a side of rice. The next day, we used the leftovers for a sandwich. Really love this stuff. I want to try it with other meats.
:]
WhyCosmetology?
I start beauty school on Monday. I’m so excited. I’m looking forward to learning how to do hair and skin treatments properly. The nail part of the program should be a breeze for me since I’ve been doing nails. The program will be for 10 months. I get a winter & summer break [feels like grade school again..lol] and of course, national holidays off. I’m also looking forward to meeting new people. That’s always fun.
The Director of Admissions for the school told me that if I write a small essay about how I feel about cosmetology and how it benefits me, then she will knock off a thousand dollars of my tuition. That’s frickin’ great! :] The essay doesn’t have to be like four pages or anything ridiculous like that. Real happy about that since I’m not that great of a writer. I thought I share what I wrote since I do talk about nail polish and other things related to beauty on here a lot.
My Love for Lipstick
At five years old, I clearly remember watching my mother getting herself dolled up for the day. She wore a floral dress with high heels. Her hair was shiny and wavy. Her lips were a true red to match her nails. I was in complete awe. With a splash of color here and a swift of her hand there, she transformed into the most beautiful woman I’ve ever saw. I wanted to be just like her. This is when my love for cosmetics began.
I did a favor for a friend by doing her makeup for a party. It was a bit of a challenge because she has port-wine stains on her temples and cheeks. I manage to cover them up and was shocked with the results. I told her to take a look at herself in the mirror after I finished her look with a soft pink lipstick. She hesitated to say anything. Holding her tears back, she said, “Thank you so much. I look so beautiful.” I said back to her, “You are beautiful.” Moments like this is the reason why I chose the path of cosmetology. Her reaction made me realize that lipstick wasn’t just lipstick; it was so much more deeper than that.
To me, things like hair-cutting shears, nail polish, and face scrubs represent women (and men) wanting to feel like a better version of themselves. If I can help people feel better, that would be a benefit for not only them, but also for myself. They would leave feeling refreshed and gorgeous. I would leave with my head held high, thinking to myself, “I can take on the world!”
Cosmetology means everything to me. It’s not just about the need for another lipgloss to add to my collection or curling my hair to impress my boyfriend. It’s about how it all makes me feel about myself. It’s about adding confidence to my inner beauty. And if using that true red lipstick can make me feel so good like my mother did, why not help others feel the same way? In my heart, that is want I want to do. Getting into the world of cosmetology feels right to me.
Not bad, huh? I exaggerated with the story a little bit [the tears] to add more depth. Lol. As long as I get my thousand dollars. :] This is truly how I feel though, with cosmetology.
Here are pictures of my friend I did makeup for. I didn’t take any pictures of her without the makeup. Because of her port-wine stains, I felt like that would be rude of me to do so. [Click to enlarge]

This look was for a night at Mon Jin Lau. Smokey eyes: browns and grays.

I forget what this look was for. Purples.

This look was for a Halloween party. She was going as a flapper. Shadows: black, grays and silvers.

Another Halloween look. She was a Chola/Gangsta. Shadows: browns, grays, and champagne.

This was the favorite out of all. Mainly because the foundation looks better than the others. Instead of using her Sheer Cover foundation [she picked too light of a shade], I put on my Pur Minerals. I believe she was going to a club this time.
Base/Foundation: Facial cream, Skyn Iceland eye cream, Sheer Cover foundation/powder/concealer, Pur Minerals powder, MAC Select Cover-Up, Benefit Erase Paste [really great], Amazing Cosmetics Concealer [the best], Makeup Forever HD MicroFinish Powder, and Urban Decay Primer Potion.
Eyebrows: brow kit from Anastasia.
Liners: MAC, Makeup Forever, and Lancome.
Shadows: Urban Decay, Kat Von D, Sephora, Too Faced, and off brand from a beauty convention, Bare Minerals, MAC, and Cargo.
Blush: Jemma Kid, tarte, Lorac, Rimmel London, and MAC
Lips: Rimmel London, MAC, Maybelline, NYX, tarte, and Lancome. [some not shown]
Brushes: Sephora and MAC.
Silly.
When I lived in Michigan, going to the Social Security office wasn’t that bad. Yeah, sometimes I had to wait a long time, but it wasn’t a real pain in the ass. In Michigan, you can get everything done in one place. You walk into an office, pick a number [which is usually right when you walk in] and then you wait to do whatever you need to do. You can change your driver’s license, I.D. card, address, get your social security card, auto registration, etc. Here in Florida, you have to go to different buildings to do all that. What a pain in the ass!
We [me, BF, Cooper] went to the Social Security office so I can recover my lost Social Security card [I know it by heart, just need it for school]. While the BF and Coop stayed outside, I went in the building. Well, when I walked in, there was this old computer-looking thing right in front. Then to the right were like 20-30 people waiting. I’m not a shy person or that self-conscious, but I felt anxious because I had no clue what I was doing. I looked for forms to fill out and they were all in Spanish. I looked for a number to take, but I couldn’t find it. I was so confused and not feeling so good. I walked out. I decided that I’m just going to print out an application and mail it.
I hate doing this kind of stuff when moving to a new place. Gotta change your address for everything. I wish we could change it [like driver's license, license plate, etc.] online.
On the way to the office…Coop and I. Also, with my favorite shirt on. I got it from Urban Outfitters. My friends say it reminds them of Arizona Green Tea. Lol. They had this shirt in red, black, and white too. Should have gotten that one too.

After the office, I rode my bike to Target to get some vitamins, ink for the printer, and food.
Got me some Biotin [I already take One-a-Day Women & Fish Oils] supplements. They’re for hair, skin, nails, and metabolism of carbs, proteins, & fats. Hopefully this helps my hair grow even faster! I really miss my long hair.
For food, I got some frozen dinners for lazy days. I love Kashi’s frozen dinners. My favorite is the Black Bean Mango. Sounds kinda weird, huh? My old client recommended it. I love it! I just add a little cayenne pepper to it for some kick. I love spicy.
At home being silly. Can you feel it? Listening to Kylie Minogue – “In Your Eyes”. Lol

When there’s people around me, I like putting on one ear bud.

Coop keeping a look out.

FloweredNails.
I don’t particularly like this flower plant, but it’s great for nails! And why is it a holiday flower? I don’t know. I didn’t make the design completely red, cause that would be boring. So here’s my version.
Inspiration: Poinsettias

One coat base coat. Two coats silver. One thin coat of gold on the ends [halfway up].

With a magenta striping paint, draw petals and fill in on the corner of your nails.

With a red striping paint, draw bigger petals.

Fill the petals in, but don’t cover the magenta petals you made earlier. You don’t have to be perfect when filling it in.

With a teal striping paint, draw a few strokes for leaves.

With a green, draw a few more overlapping strokes for leaves.

With a black striping paint, thinly outline the flower.

Add green dots in the corner for the flower.

Add yellow dots over the green and glitter the tips of the flower to jazz it up.

Don’t think, DREAM
Every now and then, I will google up things that I want [this time, shoes]. Most of the things I look up are things I cannot afford. I’m pretty much window shopping. Well, it is window shopping….my firefox window. Lol.
Dork, Vana. :]
*Sigh….shoes. It’s like purses, wallets, makeup, and lingerie. You can never have too much. Lol.
Bjork.
Her voice gives me the chills. I love her music. I may not understand most of it or did I try understanding it, but her voice just draws me in. I love to sing and when I hear singers really sing, I’m moved. She has one of my favorite voices. Plus, she’s a little on the weird side, which makes me love her so much more.
I would really love to take voice lessons. I listened to a song I sang for my dj friend, Priyonjoni, and I was a little disgusted with my voice. We recorded it like 5-6 years ago. I have to say I have a lot more control over my voice now. :] Listening to songs like this makes me want to improve so much more. I never belonged to a serious choir [just junior high and elementary]. I would love to learn proper terms, notes, breathing exercises, how to increase my octave range, etc.
Anyway…enough of me blabbing. Have a listen of Bjork [old songs].

Hello, my name is Vana. An artsy fartsy-status updating-sexy beast. Lol. Scratch that last part. Thank you for visiting this blog; it's my baby. Created to simply share my passions and thoughts. ^-^
