Gumpaste.

I need a part-time job. I’m thinking about finding a bakery to work at. ^^ Of course, being around sweets would be awesome and delicious, but I want to learn more about baking. I’m a pretty good baker, but I want to be better at creating recipes and decorating. I have friends that went to college for pastry but they’re across the country. I could learn by just doing it at home, but it would be nice seeing how a real bakery works and stuff. Ever watch Ace of Cakes on the Food Network? That would be a sweet place to work at for me. Working with gumpaste, fondant, etc.

I worked with gumpaste for the first time last week. It was alittle like working with play-doh, only it’s stickier and dries out quicker.

The grass took me forever because I didn’t have a specific decorating tip to make it easier (the one that has a bunch of holes in it). I had a tip that had two holes, but didn’t have the decorating bags. So I just used ziploc bags with a corner snipped off for piping. Yup, I piped the grass leaves one by one. Took me about 30 minutes to do a full cupcake. Lol. The ones with a gumpaste disk I only filled with grass halfway. You can tell where I began to get lazy with the grass by seeing long bent leaves. Lol. I used regular frosting from the grocery store. Vanilla with food coloring. I added more confectioners’ sugar (powdered) to the green frosting to make it a little stiffer.
The “happy” disk was sticking up but decided to fall on me. The dimples on the golfballs were achieved with my nail art dotters (sanitized of course). The black handles of the golf clubs were painted with my nail art craft brushes. The paint I used was a bit of regular vanilla frosting, food coloring, and thinned out with some milk.
The cake itself was just from a box. I knew I was going to spend alot of time decorating, so I didn’t bother making it from scratch.
Eventually I want to get real cake decorating tools.

Here’s golf cupcakes I did a few weeks before I made the ones with the gumpaste. Gumpaste looks way nicer and cleaner. These were still cute though. ^^

Cupcakes I made a little over year ago for fun. Piping is shaky, but came out pretty cute too. The Heart You is like my signature. I always do that design.

Such noob work.
I will get better!

My brother & friend got me this book for my last year birthday.

Love it! ^^ I used to take baths while reading this. Lol. Great tips and real cute designs in here.

I want a cupcake now…

LOL

Will Smith is my all time favorite actors.

NauticalStar.

I love nautical stars. People get tattoos of it for the meaning of it, but I just simply like the design of it. Well, I guess, I look at it as a rocker thing. Either way…it’s a cool design for tattoos and your nails! Lol.

Besides flowers & feathering/lining/stroking, this design was the most requested at the last nail salon I worked at. I myself love this design. This one will probably be one of the harder designs of mine because you have to be able to draw a little. Other designs of mine are real easy because you’re just layering strokes on and adding dots.
So for this, you just need striping paint. Make sure the paint/polish in the bottle is the right consistency. The polish should be thin, not runny…pretty much how it is when you first purchase it. My bottle was on the thicker side, but I didn’t have any polish thinner to thin it out. I fixed that problem though. You can get polish thinner at beauty supply stores, probably Sally’s.

So here are the steps of drawing a nautical star. If you can’t draw it on paper, then it will be hard for you to draw it on a nail. Lol. Practice drawing this on paper first.

This drawing is pretty self-explanatory.
Polish two coats of your choice of polish, wait to dry a few minutes, then draw.
I did this design a lot with the colors I chose: purple polish with a white/silver star. I did it a few times with a chalky pink polish (Essie Figi) with a black star. Sometimes I would go over the drawing part only with glitter.

Since my polish was thick, I colored in the “negative space” with a color that wouldn’t be so noticeable. This makes it look cleaner and sharper. I used black because in natural light, you can’t see it. If you have striping paint that matches your nail color, use that.

Two stars are never going to be exact since you’re hand drawing this. I only rock one star when doing this on myself. =/ Can’t draw this one on the other like I can with my other designs.

I loved putting this star on the index fingers or thumbs. This is my friend, Ashley that came to me all the time for my designs. ^^ Miss ya, girl. Opera singer that moved to NYC. CRAZY voice! Younger than me too.

Anyways…hope you guys like it!

I always check Sephora’s “Get The Look” section for current makeup trends. Most of them I wouldn’t wear out in public, but it’s fun to try it at home.

On the left of the site are really great links to videos, making of the eyes, skincare solutions, etc. I swear, I spend hours on this site.

i heart cosmetics.

Seriously.

EDIT:
Got my hours switched! Yay! ^^
__________

Who am I kidding? I am soooo not a morning person. I am a very ambitious person, but sometimes I don’t follow through. Especially when it comes to me say, “Oh, I’ll wake up at 7am to workout, then I’ll shower, then I’ll go to school. Right, Vana. Realistically, I sleep until 2pm. I’ll set my alarm and everything, and I still can’t wake up. I don’t know if I said this before but one time I was sleeping over a friends house and in the middle of the night, the fire alarm or something went off. There was four of us there. I don’t remember it ever happening. I was dead asleep! They were shocked and a little concerned that I sleep through that. Lol. Crazy. If an alarm as loud as a fire/house alarm can’t wake me up, is my little clock/phone alarm gonna do the job? I don’t think so. Someone close to me suggested I get an alarm clock where you have to aim a gun at it to shut it off, or one that shakes the bed. I seriously think that that wouldn’t work either. I’d find a way to sleep around it.
Sometimes, I feel like I’m the only one I know that has this problem. =/

School starts at 9am. That’s early for me. I don’t know people who have jobs at 6am do it; that’s hella early for me. If you’ve read my past entries, you will know that I am horrible at managing my sleeping habits. I am a true night owl. I always have been. It’s the reason I never finished high school. =X
So I called the school (I go to beauty school) today to see if I can switch to part-time. Part-time students only go to school 20 hours a week, instead of 30. I would go to class from 5:30-9:30pm. That is a wayyy better and realistic schedule for me.
Waiting on a call back to see if there is a spot open. I hope there is!
I almost thought about quitting school, but I thought switching to part-time is a better solution.
Even though I’m pretty positive I don’t want to have a career doing hair, I should & want to finish beauty school. It’s a Cosmetology license, so it makes me eligible to get into skin and nails too. I did nails, but that was in MI. MI beauty school hours are less than FL. I like learning about hair though. For my own personal benefit, and I’m sure I will hook a friend or family member. This license will also look good on my resume. Not only does it show that I learned all this stuff, but it will also prove that I finished something.
^^

Oh yeah. If I there’s a part-time slot, I will have more time with my readers! (I only have a few I believe, but you guys matter! ^^)  More tutorials, art, random blabbing…et cetera, et cetera.
