bareMinerals vs. Pur Minerals

Before I give my review, let me start by telling you what kind of skin I have.

The type of skin I have is in between Combination skin (oily t-zone but dry in other areas, enlarged pores) and Oily skin (shine all over, black/whiteheads, pores open). My skin is pretty much oily everywhere except my lower cheeks and sides of my mouth.
I have very, very few blemishes on my face except for on my nose.
My nose is completely covered in tiny whiteheads. If I ran my finger over my nose, I can feel them. You can REALLY see them when I’m under sunlight. It’s really gross. And powders really enhances their appearance.
And my t-zone (across the forehead and down the nose to chin) is very oily. Throughout the day, that area gets very shiny. Real annoying.
On top of a skin regime (I use DDF and Neutrogena products), I wanted a great foundation to even out skin tone (dark circles), controlled shine, gave a healthy glow, and not be so cakey that my pores would be even more enlarged.

I started using bareMinerals a little over a year ago. I fell in love with it right way. When I purchased it, I got the starter kit. $60. It came with a how-to dvd, 2 foundation shades, mineral veil, all-over face color in warmth, full flawless face brush (kabuki), flawless application brush, concealer brush, and a skin rev-er upper (facial prep).

As I mentioned before, in an old post…I used to use powders like Nars Powder Foundation and MAC Select/Loose Powder before using mineral makeup. I was amazed on how light the bareMinerals Foundation felt. Made the others feel cakey in comparison.

The brushes were pretty good. It was my first time using a kabuki brush, which gave me enough coverage. Though the concealer brush didn’t conceal like I wanted it to. I just used my MAC Select Cover-Up for my zombie eyes.

Mineral Veil. This is probably my favorite product out of the whole starter kit…actually probably out of all mineral makeup. The Mineral Veil powder really controls my annoying shine throughout a day. I ran out of this way before I ran out of the foundation. Oh yeah…that’s because a lot of times when I was in a hurry for work, I would just put on some concealer with just a dust of mineral veil all-over. =P Love love LOVE this particular product.

All-over face color in Warmth. This product in this color is pretty much a bronzer. It’s a nice product. I think I would have chosen a different color since I’m already very tan.

Skin rev-er upper. I wasn’t impressed. Even though it was “fragrant free”, I didn’t like the smell of it. I also felt slightly sticky on my skin. I didn’t like the texture of the formula as well. It was just a weird, runny feeling.

Overall, I thought bareMinerals was great. I have a few of their other products like shadows and lipgloss, which are also awesome. The only thing I don’t like about bareMinerals Foundation was the mess. It’s fine when I’m using it at home, but when I bring it to work or do it in the car (yeah, lol), it can be a bitch.

This is where Pur Minerals comes in handy.

I first heard/read about Pur Minerals from a blog from Michelle Phan/RiceBunny. Talented girl.
I started using Pur Minerals for about a week now. Again, I purchase the starter kit for this one too $35. It came with a 4-in-1 Pressed Mineral Makeup (foundation), Mineral Glow, Universal Marble Powder, and a chisel brush. The 4-in-1 Pressed Makeup felt the same as bareMinerals. It has the same buildable coverage, meaning I still use a concealer for dark circles. Btw: I switched to a different concealer: Benefit Erase Paste.  I love this concealer. Great for dark circles. ] I love love LOVE the packaging on this one; it’s very convenient…portable. This is where Pur Minerals beats bareMinerals ass….no mess! Easy to do anywhere. I do my makeup in the car alot. =P

Mineral Glow. This product was nice. Like the bareMinerals All-over Color, but a lot less intense because of the pressed packaging.

Universal Marble Powder in Pink. I really like this blush. It really brightened up my face when I applied it on my cheeks and eyes. =)

The chisel brush was cute, perfect sized, and soft.

The kit didn’t have a Mineral Veil type powder like bareMinerals but Pur Minerals does have a Mineral Light powder in their line. I’m not sure if it works like the Mineral Veil. I’ll have to buy it and try it out. So in the mean time, I use either Makeup Forever HD MicroFinish Powder or Laura Gellar Welcome Matte Skin Enhancer Both really great products.

Both products are excellent in my opinion. Everyone’s opinions are different because everyone’s skin is different. I read reviews where people have broken out to both bareMinerals and Pur Minerals. Don’t know which one to buy for yourself? You can try bareMinerals at Sephora stores and Pur Minerals at ULTA stores. There’s lots of other mineral makeup out there, but these are the only one’s I’ve tried that people are buzzing about. I’ve tried mineral makeup at drugstores…never again. Wasn’t happy with any of them. Brushes suck.

I believe I will be using both bareMinerals and Pur Minerals for a long time.
